ABOUT ME

I am a highly experienced teacher. I have taught for 30 years, teaching from sixth formers down to reception in both state and independent schools. My specialisms are Maths and Physics plus Chemistry and Computing. I have an enhanced DBS check available.

My qualifications are a BSc in Computer Systems Engineering from Warwick University, an MSc in Information Systems from City University and a PGCE in Technology and Drama from Manchester University.

I work well with students who lack confidence, in particular two groups - those that have been made to feel they cannot do maths and young autistic people (and similar) who find standard lessons challenging. I am a very calm, non-threatening person so can quickly make a child feel comfortable. I give gentle encouragement that allows progress without anxiety. Most of my students are studying for GCSE and are worried they wont achieve the grade they deserve or need.

My style is child centred and, where possible, child led within a framework of clear goals. My strengths as a teacher are that I inspire young people and give them confidence in their abilities. I make the subject both engaging and entertaining - the key to effective learning. This means I can stretch them but also have confidence that they will remember what they learn.

I have been a home educating parent for 26 years and my instinct and sympathies lie within those styles of learning. My two children have been home ed for their whole lives. My daughter is now a successful self employed project manager with a Maths degree. My son is autistic and has just completed his degree in music performance and, with a little fatherly bias, is incredible with words.
